DescriptionSo this is certainly a historic page - not only issue 65 the first issue in which the Kree Supreme Intelligence and Ronan the Accuser both appear, but it's in fact the first appearance of the Kree as a race. Here the Supreme Intelligence invades the dreams of all four members of the FF and warns them of the dire consequences facing them after they've destroyed the Kree's hidden outpost and the Sentry stationed at that outpost and tasked with monitoring the development of the Inhumans. Great stuff, twice-up Kirby FF, replete with Kirby effects and far-out wall art in Johnny's bedroom - what's not to love? But this is also one of those unintentional moments of the Marvel U that stuck with me, as it's probably the gayest moment in FF history (or at least the earliest gay moment I ever noticed in the FF). Specifically, that final panel. Think about it - the FF own the entire top 5 floors of the Baxter Building, and according to the cutaway in FF Annual 3, Reed and Ben have permanent rooms, while Johnny has an asbestos room next to Sue's room (they both commute from the suburbs. Sometime later, as shown in a cutaway in issue 201, the living quarters are re-configured, as Reed and Sue share a room and Franklin has a room. But to be clear, there are enough rooms for everyone to live comfortably. Yet somehow, when the FF awaken from their shared dreams, not only do Reed and Sue wake up next to each other in their shared bed, but as we see in the final panel, so too do Ben and Johnny, with Ben rolling out of their shared(?) bed. It seems that Ben was working late and so crashed at the Baxter Building... in Johnny's bed... with Johnny already in it... Whaaaaatttt??!?!?? [I won't even speculate what the "pickles 'n ice cream" was meant to imply...] Maybe it's nothing. Perhaps like when watching the Flintstones, they're just having "a gay old time". But I just love this page for that panel alone. Social/Sharing |

When Supreme Intellignce speaks, it reverberates with Kirby power! Having opened up the cosmic avenue of stories Lee / Kirby / Sinnott were very imaginative to weave the FF into those storylines!

Fabulous if not fantastic. Pickles and ice cream, sour and sweet.

Outstanding! That image of the supreme intelligence was used many times subsequently as well.

Very near the end of the 1960s magic run by Stan and Jack. This run from FF #38 - FF #67 endowed all 23 Marvel movies with the bravura and excitement that was so much a part of the Stan and Jack run.
But without the Joe magic, unequaled throughout his long career, the impact of these stories would have been lessened.

Awesome page - I also noticed that Johnny has a Kirby framed above his head, pretty cool!
