DescriptionThis story line, which began in Thor 272, brought into the title some actual Norse mythology, and introduced a new Thor that looked more like the mythological version. As we know, Balder cannot be harmed because of vows made to his mother Frigga by "fire and water, iron and all metals, stones and earth, from trees, sicknesses and poisons, and from all four-footed beasts, birds and creeping things, that they would not hurt Balder." However, there was only one plant who seemed at the time too young to swear - mistletoe. So when Loki, the trickster, had an arrow made from mistletoe and had the blind god Hoder shoot Balder with it, he is struck down (dead in the myths, here only at death's door). It is the death of Balder that leads to the start of Ragnarok. Now, the gods of Asgard scramble to restore Balder and keep Ragnarok from starting. Meanwhile, a news crew from Midgard is recording these happenings. Social/Sharing |
