Description33" x 24" by Bob Layzell, 2020. Original acrylic painting on board. Bob's current works are usually "expanded views" of his vintage early works. In this case, this is not so much an expanded view but more of a modernized concept of an early work called "Dawn Raid" of which I used to also own.Sad (and long) story about that one! I purchased it from Bob, along with several others, back in 2019. It arrived damaged. I sent it back to Bob to have it fixed as Covid started to rage. It made it all the way from the U.S. to Bob in the UK but delivery to his door was not completed so it came all the way back to the States, unopened. I then sent it again and he restored the damage but in the subsequent shipment back to me for the second time, it was stolen at a UPS facility along with a half dozen other masterpieces of his, including one that I and Bob both consider to be one of his best ever paintings! ARrrrrrgggghhh! So, Bob took the same concept of that 'seemingly cursed' painting from the early 1980's, and added some updates and a twist on the theme. Fortunately, Bob's famous alien foliage was kept! This new piece turned out incredible and I love it more than that earlier one. This one with the soldiers dropping down out of the ship like Mandalorians, really added a cool effect. After a long hiatus on the airbrush, this was one of Bob's first to return back to using it and he put it to fantastic use on the misty morning effects! This is also a much larger work on board. The dawn lighting on the underside of the ship and transition of colors often seen in morning light as the sun first illuminates a night sky, was captured perfectly by Bob's talented hand and eye! The flying jetpacks are fun with their old school design tiny thrust spouts. This planet may have low gravity allowing for this to scientifically work. Great vision to widen up the piece to allow more space where we could imagine the the soldiers floating across.
