DescriptionDear Friends..Just recently I was given the news that Marie Severin had passed away. I felt sad hearing this. Back in the 1996 San Diego Comic Con, my brother, and I, had met Marie for the very first time. She was extremely upbeat and friendly. As most of us know, some of our favorite writers/ artists don't always live up to our personal expectations. Some may seem bitter, or even very short with fans. Marie Severin was nothing like that. This sweet lady was a real angel. Someone who always had time for her fans, even when she didn't have any time to spare. She was like a female version of John Romita Sr., both being amazing artists, upbeat, and very giving to fans. Anyway, I had asked her to do a convention sketch for me. Although Spider-Man is my personal favorite, Marie's Hulk was something which she was famous for, and rightfully so. So I asked for a sketch of Spidey battling The Hulk. Here; shown for the very first time in 22 years, is that commission I asked her to do for me. And to this day I am very pleased with the results. As I'm writing this tribute I'm looking at this same art framed, hanging to my right. And also framed, above the art, is both myself, and Marie, both smiling while holding up the art for the camera. Marie was truly unique. It was a rare find, indeed, seeing such a grand artist, such as Marie Severin, working in a field that was so male orientated. Especially in the 1960s. But God blessed this wonderful woman with such an amazing talent. Some of my favorite Hulk tales, out of "Tales To Astonish", featured Marie's one of a kind style. Anyway, I'd like to end this by sending out my condolences to both Marie's family & friends. Losing someone of such fine character leaves this world a tad bit emptier. But then, Heaven is now even that much more richer. Thanks, Marie, for the memories, and making our childhoods that much more memorable. God Bless you, and may you R.I.P. Social/Sharing |

I was disheartened by the lack of tributes to one of our very best comic artists. I met Msarie on a few occassions including this convention in 96 which i believe was the SDCC?. Marie was all heart and if you weren't a fan before meeting her, I promise you she had you're undying loyalty afterwards. Marie RIP and like Daniel says Heaven is richer for your presence. Daniel the drawing is magnificent and you're moving tribute top notch. If you don't mind I elect you to eulogize any future giants that pass from this life to the next. We consume with great enthusiasm their blood swaet and tears poured out on the comic page. Sadly we fall short when it comes time to say thank you and goodbye. I'd like to think we're all too grief stricken to respond. Either way I like many of you will miss that smile and the wondeful unique style of art.

Hey Michael; Thanks for the kind words concerning Marie.
Back in the day around 1997, I remember standing at a comic
art booth, going through some pages. Just then I pull out
an "over-sized' page from "Tales To Astonish"# 92. The entire
page featured Bruce Banner transforing into The Hulk. The
art was rendered magnifigantly by Marie Severin. And the
price tag read $850.00. Yes; a mere paltry amount by today's
standards, but alot to me at the time. In addition, I was still
reletively new to the original comic art scene, still testing
the waters. Also, my main focus, at the time, were set
upon Spider-Man & Doctor Doom art. Still; whenever I think
of that amazing Hulk page, I almost have to kick myself for
passing it by. It sure was (*is*) a dandy, and I just love the
way Marie drew The Hulk.
Yes; Marie Severin was a true master of this
medium, and an incredible human being. She won't soon
be forgotten. My biggest regret, more than not picking
up that gorgeous Hulk page, was not meeting Marie
Severin just one last time. What an angel she was.

A fantastic tribute and a lovely piece. She was an immense talent, and I loved her work. Not Brand Ecch was a personal favorite. She was the only person I can recall who was top of the game both with serious Hulk and funny Hulk, too (the Bulk). Congrats!
