DescriptionIt’s so obvious but I really should remember to check the size of art before I bid. On a few occasions I’ve been disappointed by a piece arriving and it being a little smaller than I anticipated. And then there is this… yes, I was sure I checked before bidding but I wonder if I got my centimetres confused with inches? Anyway this is a monster in all senses. The art, of course, is wonderful but the size… It’s 36" x 50.5". That’s three feet wide by more than four feet tall. Once I can get this framed, post “Lockdown 3: The Vaccine Months” (and hopefully these references will look very dated shortly) it should look magnificent. If I can just find the right wall…As featured on pp124 of Sanjulian Master of Fantasy Art (Book Palace edition, 2022) And the Heritage blurb...A savage battle rages between Joe, an enormous gorilla who is the main attraction of a Hollywood nightclub, and lions that have escaped their habitat, in this dynamic image based on the 1949 motion picture Mighty Joe Young. The classic RKO film, released following the studios success with King Kong, has a large cult following, and this vivid reinterpretation of the iconic scene by Sanjulian is rendered in oil on canvas with an image area of 36" x 50.5". The loose canvas has light wear and holes in the margins, with signs of previous stretching. Signed by Sanjulian in the lower left image area. Social/Sharing |
