Description

Travis Charest was always on my list because of the three covers he did for Batman leading up to the launch of the infamous Knightfall saga. Out of the three, Batman 488 was a personal grail. It was one of the first comic art covers with Azrael and sealed the deal for me as a page I hoped to own one day. Yet, what's funny is that, among the three pieces Charest delivered, 490 was my favorite in terms of art and composition.

In a parallel timeline from when I was contemplating whether to pull the trigger on the 488 cover, this 490 cover was posted on Facebook. Among the many who contacted the owner about it, he gave me the opportunity to be the next steward of the piece. It was really cool to hear about the fact that this was one of two covers that was hung on the wall of Travis Charest himself for 20 years before he decided to let them go. I'm forever thankful to my new friend, as he not only gave me the chance to own it, but he also hand-delivered it during SDCC 2024, making this the most memorable moment of the con.

Not only was I super nostalgic about Charest's art on this, I was also blown away by the memory of this being the story where Bane gives Riddler his serum to make him super strong so he could duke it out with the Bat head-to-head! Quite the lead-up to Knight Fall indeed! Overall, I'm super happy and feel very lucky to add this to the collection. Thanks again, Lance, for allowing me to have this as part of my collection! Forever grateful.
