15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Worlds Finest #319 Page 16 BATMAN FLYING BATPLANE Original Art (DC 1985). Jose Delbo and Alfredo Alcala.

What a match made in heaven! Delbo and Alcala craft blueprint-quality, impressive perspectives of the Batplane II with the warmth of Alcala's inks rendering a bold and realistic Batman behind the controls.

Not much comic art features the Batplane. This is the revised design of the aircraft. The Batplane II was a retooled needle-nosed Wayne Aerospace W4 Wraith fighter that married style with substance. In terms of design, it shares features with the Grumman F9F Cougar and McDonnell F-101 Voodoo. When the Batplane is stolen and triplicated by smugglers in Batman #61, Batman and Robin upgrade the Batplane to jet propulsion, adding at least "100 miles per hour" to its maximum speed.

I really like the layout, giving us some nice images of both Batman and the Batplane, and as usual, Alcala makes the pencils sing!

The layout is awesome! It actually comes together like the window of an experimental jet plane.

I don't see much of Jose Delbo in this. In any case, it looks more like prime Jim Aparo inked by Alfredo Alcala. I like how it seems like the 2 bottom panels appear to be different views Bats in the air and closer to the ground. Also, how cool is it to see the modern Batplane ?!?
