DescriptionNo doubt a memorable cover from a lot of our childhoods and at the start of Batmania. This oversized image captures so much of what makes George Pratt such a mesmerizing artist and painter. As a kid, I had tried to copy my favorite Batman images in pencil onto the lid of comics long box. Draw in pencil, erase, try again, erase, keep trying until it was a pretty reasonable copy. However, this was the image in the middle that served as the focal point for the entire lid. I'll never forget it. To own and get to look at it in person...it is really special for me. Overjoyed to have it in my collection, after reaching out to George years ago and finding out it had left his hands not long after it was published. I got to speak to George in person at OAX 2025 and he said it was his favorite Batman image he had done. I shared with him a photo of it framed in my Bats corner. Social/Sharing |

Pratt, Priest, Aparo, and... ninjas. This issue had it all! And at the height of Batmania II.
"For me to be upset would imply some moral judgment on my part. You know me better than that. After all, I did not question your motives when you came to me."
"No, you didn't. But perhaps you should have."
Legendary.

One of Pratt's best pieces. Great getting something so nostalgic and meaningful for you!

It has such great realism in the anatomy and just the right amount of strain to hold this pose. Somewhat takes Batman to his pulp roots to be like a jungle adventure hero like Tarzan.

You are right - it is a very memorable cover !! I can't recall the story inside, but this image stayed with me. Congrats on adding this gem to your collection !

Batman hanging like his namesake, a Bat, from the tree. The pencil and ink are extraordinarily well done. A leaner muscled Batman is my preference as depicted by Pratt. Nice addition to your collection.

Doesn't get better than this from George. It's definitely his prime Batman period and imo one if not his best Batman piece ever. Congrats on such a score. Now you need to track down the color guide to go with it. Maybe George still has that?

Wow! What a stunning Batman cover! It's so unexpected to see Batman hanging from a branch upside down, like the very creatures he styled himself after. Gorge Pratt really nailed this image. Superb!
