Snorek and Bill talking about Iron Maiden on the last update, as well as the ongoing debate of the CAF Awards Category for waht should properly be considered "Other", prompted me to take it down off the wall this week and put it onto CAF for others to enjoy.
I've written about the majesty of this specific page before. It is one of my all-time favorite pages, and is a masterclass for sequential art construction. Congrats!
Right? So cool. I updated the photo with a little better lighting. It really lines up close to the final, right down to the texture in the sea foam. I knew you'd enjoy the history of it!
100% I love how crazy and manic it is. Feels right out of Maximum Overdrive...
So happy for you. Goes into a very impressive collection, now even more so!
And BOOM! Fantastic add to an already stellar collection!
Haha. If only I bought it privately, I could have legit used the "It's not for me, it's for my daughter!" plea! For the first time in the history of OA purchases, it would have been true! A missed opportunity indeed...
Great acquisition. So brilliantly put together. Odd that the art for Vader and Son was bought, but Vader's Little Princess wasn't...
Just going to pad the comment count here, since I can't gush any more vociferiously than has already been done. Congrats!
So good. Not just the gag, but the line work here is stupendous.
A stunning strip. Not often you see the vertical layout, which adds to the drama. I know you don't sell, so damn, I wish I saw this first! Congrats.
Rob, if anyone jealous of a Spectre collection, they are jealous of yours!
Another piece of the CGR puzzle finding its way into your collection. Congrats!
Congrats, as usual. You continue to add these gems! 100% agree its the best non-Spectre page in this book!
Great buy! That was a reasonable price for a Sunday Nemo. Guernsey Auctions falls outside of the normal world of OA auctions, so your perserverance paid off. Great example!
Not only is it a great moment in the book, opening up the powerless and lawless Gotham City for the rise of the Sons of Gotham to subsume the Mutant gang, but it reminds you of the sacrifice that Supes makes in almost getting completely burnt up in the explosion. The hero shot is most apt. Varley's rich colors on this page in particular show the breadth of her palatte. Impactful, indeed. Great score!
If the scale wasn't enough, this is heart-pounding scene by a master. A cornerstone to your collection! Congrats!
Very cool commission. I like the rougher feel better than the original cover. More in line with Jerry's current work in Western oil paintings.
I feel like someone should get called for roughing, and it shouldn't be me. It wasn't cheap...
That last panel.... just a gorgeous all-around page with a K-O at the end!
Congratulations. Living in Manhattan and as a fan of this series, I had seriously considered making a hard run at it at auction, but backed off the day of. Its a treasure and I hope you give it a place of prominence!
What an incredible cover. Technically, that approach that Tom took to do the Spectre, using the weighted lines to add speed/pain but also as a form of half-done cross-hatching, its incredibly difficult to pull off. Plus the faces are all done individually, in the own unique form of anguish, also not easy to do. Its just stellar. Congrats!
Funny...the thing that struck me most about this cover is that in the 90's, we had clearly not yet issued the death knell for local print journalism... Great cover!
This is stupendous! The master of backgrounds delivers in spades here!
Absolutely stunning. Heartbreaking emotion on the page. Congrats.
It really is, to me, the best Batman image ever put together. Glad you liked it!
So awesome. Styx played at my parent's high school dance, and my buddy used to wash the lead singer's car as a teenager. You would never have known that, which makes this a weirdly awesome choice! Thanks Marcus!
The next month has a guy getting his face ripped off by a werewolf while sitting in the front seat of his car... just to level-set this! Ha!
You missed seeing it by a day. Next time you're over...
Thanks Felix. I went around shaking the bushes before the auction, to see if anyone else was going at it with equal gusto. Wait until you see it...it's glorious.
While we all see the moment in time captured on this gorgeous cover, you get to relive the moment when you realized you won this grail of grails. Congrats Jim!
I love this cover. I love it so much, I want to crack its neck. If its going to be in some batsich's gallery, at least I can rest easy knowing its in yours.
This cover is loud! You can hear the shouting, the crumpling of the tank, the crackle of small arms fire creating a background din, fully drowned out by the booming voice of Subby...the whole thing SCREAMS. I love it! Congrats!
This is lethally fun.
With all the impact and gravitas you would expect for a Murphy cover. Killer composition! Congrats!
All the tendrils of what we know of Batman and his greatest nemesis start with this case opening in the last panel. All of it. Starts. Here.
Passion and hard work is what makes a collection like yours. Congrats! This is epic!
Thanks Nick! I am sure the guys who did the "Three Jokers" series last year are 100% NOT okay with that as canon! Made me laugh though!
This is fantastic! Definitely brings back the intro feels! Thanks for posting!
Super impressive! Can you add a photo without the overlay? Great to where Frank stops and Lynn starts...
The listing when it was sold did not have the overlay taken off. I didn't realize that the silhouette was all on acetate. Thought it was important for other people to be able to see that and not hide the fact. It still displays fantastic and you wouldn't display it without the Frank Miller inks on acetate so in some ways it doesn't matter, but it is good to know what it is you're buying when it's a process piece like this.
As a Bats guy, you aren't going to get a whole lot of opportunities to own a McFarlane page. This checks a lot of boxes! Congrats!
