DescriptionI had this idea for a commission for a few years. I loved the JLA Treasury cover by Neal Adams that had the main members flying/ running out of the Logo. I always thought it would make for a cool interpretation with the Hanna Barbera Heroes in a similar pose.Growing up in the 70's I watched most of these cartoons in reruns during Hanna Barbera's World of Super Adventure shown weekdays after school. I fell in love with the adventures of Space Ghost, Birdman, The Galaxy Trio and later on the Blue Falcon! Having stored away this idea for a cool retro commission, it came up in conversation with Buzz one day when he found some time in his schedule. Being around the same age as me, I knew he grew up watching these same cartoons and it would be a Cool project for him to work on. I just had one request, I wanted the characters drawn in His style, not the flat animated versions, but more realistically rendered. As he sent me scans of the prelims, I pointed out which characters I wanted, and was adamant about No animal side kicks in the piece! I'm sure I was a real pain to work with on this piece as I put my 2 cents in where I could, having such a fondness for my childhood heroes! Even though we don't live too far from each other our schedules never seemed to meet to pick this piece up in person, so I circled the NYCC as the location where we would eventually meet up. The detail on this piece is Insane as Buzz pulled out all the stops for this piece! His brush technique in in full display with a combination of black ink and ink wash really fleshes out the piece and Breathes life into these animated characters! This piece should be a Published Cover one day! Many thanks my friend on one of your finest pieces yet!!! Social/Sharing |
