DescriptionSuperboy proclaims that this is the All time Best, and single greatest Tom Grummett cover..!If you want to argue that point you answer to him... ...and I agree with Superboy...That this is the most memorable cover that Tom Grummett has ever done. Something about this image stood out in my memory and so many others, who immediately following the death of Superman rose up to take the stage..and this cover is THAT definitive Superboy image of that era that everyone who saw it remembers.. And so it was today that Superboy said to me “show the world this Super image of me!”... Social/Sharing |

What a cocky bastard! Probably what Grummett and Kesel wanted us to notice right away as this made him different from the rest! This is a winner with the grafitti on the brick wall and the zip partial spotlight for us to focus in on Superboy.

Deservedly Copy...He's THE most Superior Boy in the DC universe 💪..and he knows his cover is the best..and yea I love how you see the smoke coming from his finger that he made Krypton Karvings with his index finger as Graffiti as a way to demonstrate his power and anti-system approach

It's not his fault. Superboy fell into a bad crowd. He'd been seen hanging out with Nightwing...and you know what an attitude that ungrateful little spud had!
This is a classic cover.

That explains it in a big way...bad boy attitude turned into a Super bad boy attitude..

I'm more partial to the "Don't ever call me Superboy!" image of him on the splash from his first appearance, but this is still a great image and a cool and very memorable cover!

Superboy never said that! He's made of ink and thus cannot speak. Nice artwork

Great cover. These early Grummett images of Superboy were fantasic at setting the tone of the character. From his first appearance in AOS 500, to this cover, the opening splash from AOS 501 and the mini-poster from the same issue. They all have some piece of the cocky, fun loving, saving the ladies attitude that launched the character.
