DescriptionHappy New Year, everyone, and welcome to 2024! I hope it will be a calendar filled to overflowing with health, peace, and blisteringly awesome OA for us all!And speaking of new eras, volume two of ‘New Avengers’ kicked off “The Heroic Age” for our heroes in style. Gone were the days of living hand-to-mouth and on the run, assembling for team meetings and meals like this one in run down, out-of-the-way and off-the-radar spots. With this relaunch of ‘New Avengers’, Stuart and Wade revel in the resplendency of the new residency and treat us to a team meal in the sumptuous environs of Avengers Mansion. All throughout the Bendis runs on both ‘Avengers’ and ‘New Avengers’, we got to sit in on meals like this with our favorite heroes, witnessing first-hand the joys, challenges, and general dynamic of all the characters that had gathered. It was always a fantastic storytelling mechanism / situation / setting, and to have such a lovely example of this from my favorite arc of the run (by my favorite artistic team) is nothing short of wonderful, wonderful, and most especially, wonderful. :) And for dessert, we get to see Luke pop the question to none other than Ben Grimm, inviting the ever lovin’, blue-eyed Thing to join his new team of Avengers and kick things off right. Yup, true Bendis scene :) Some of these breaking-bread-around-the-table scenes have had some of the best hero interactions during his work on Avengers...witness exhibit A! And Immonen/von Grawbadger were the perfect duo to illustrate! Fun page, fun moment, and I just personally dig Immonen's Ben Grimm :) Congrats, Jason!

My only issue with this entire run is that Bendis actually had the gall to put Cage on par with Benjy in the power rankings.
OK with that off my chest, WOW. Look at those facial expressions, look at the backgrounds. This is actors, in a scene on a set. Immonen cannot be matched, especially with Wade on inks.

For whatever reason, I haven't had Immonen in my pantheon of Ben Grimm artists... I was wrong! He makes Benjy so expressive here, particularly in that third-to-last panel. Marvelous spread to ring in the new year!

Strong, clear storytelling in a scene reminiscent of all those past scenes from the 70's and 80's where several characters would be shown sitting at a table playing poker together. But as someone who never had much interest in playing card games, I like this a lot more, just seeing them sitting and eating. Knowing how much you had to give up to get this, I doff my cap and congratulate you for knowing what you want and going after it hard! Congratulation, Jason and Happy New Year!

Immonen can sure set a scene! This simple interaction over a meal is just gorgeous to look at. Each character's personality comes out just by how they are posed or engaging. And just look at those inks! Simply stunning. Wonderful addition. Congrats.

Happy New Year to you, Jason! And this piece is a feast for the eyes! Appropriate, since the tableau centers around a massive feast. I really like these moments with all the characters hanging out, and as Eric B pointed out, their individual personalities shine forth just by how they are posing and engaging. Brilliant addition!
