DescriptionSoooooo…the same as many other collectors I have my friend Jeff Wedding to thank for my slight Fred Hembeck obsession… but what do you do when the sketch cards get to competitive… and just don’t scratch the itch anymore…. You go out and find an oversized cover reinterpretation of one of your all time favorite covers!! When I approached the gentleman who owned this piece (thank you so much Shaun for letting me have it! ) I really didn’t think it would happen.. but a few weeks after asking he reached back out and here it is!The ultimate (to me ) Hembeck.. Fred in his own unique style masterfully recreating the classic Byrne Austin cover that ushered in the Days of future past! Everything in this piece is art…. The logos , corner box even the comic code stamp! On top of that Fred added some flair like the Hembeck poster behind the wanted poster and replaced Colossus with John Byrne himself!! A cover that is often imitated … homaged and redone…they don’t get much better than this! Social/Sharing |

Poor Cyke. He thought he left the team 3 issues earlier, but I guess he can't escape his fate. With just two issues, Claremont, Byrne, and Austin jammed enough material for a whole movie to be based upon it. An inspired Hembeck does some of his finest work ever to homage this classic.

I saw this when it showed up on FB and thought it was amazing. Congrats on landing it in your collection! Hembeck forever!

This is epic, such an amazing creation. Love the Byrne quip and the corner box completes this masterpiece. WOW! Such an upgrade to the sketch cards. You win the Hembeck award for the month of June.
