DescriptionThis one is really cool and was kind of a big surprise… Saw this on a newer OA site …. But the description was lacking to say the least… all it said was Storm by Dave Cockrum …. No size… so date .. no context at all. Now I’ve been looking for a nice Cockrum sketch for a while.. and the prices are usually quite high and a lot of them are from his later style. So this one even though it was lacking in Info .. I could tell from the image this was an earlier piece.. by not only his style but also the way Storm looked..the face and hair look the way they did early in her run.. and the price was cheap enough to take a shot.Well when it arrived … I was quite surprised not only on the size (maybe 10x14) that it was on board and that was dated.. on the back of the board it is dated 1975! As any good X-men fan knows … Storm was created in 1975 when Giant Sized X-men came out! So this sketch was within at worst 6 months of her creation! Now is where I go out on a limb a bit here and wonder what this was done for?? Were people already asking for Storm sketches right after Giant Size X-men (she was not a featured character) ??? And even if they were the posing seems a bit odd for a “convention sketch” … I have to wonder if this was more a character study or something done by Dave???? Maybe one of you have seen it before and know more then me??? Let me know if you do… but either way very happy to add a very early Cockrum Storm to the collection! Social/Sharing |

That's when Storm was ready to join DC and the Legion of Super-Heroes!

Great early Storm - waiting to hear more as you find out more - would be great if this was an early character study - be sure to ask in the Facebook groups

This really looks like the sort of work an artist does when working out an idea. I go with the early design rather than con sketch theory.

Man, bonus it being from 1975! Gotta be one of the earliest Storm images. You had me at "Cockum Storm", let alone from that year! Congrats!
