DescriptionAn impossible dream made possible. A week ago today I worked out a deal to get a commission piece lined up for Toronto Fan Expo 2019 with Albert Moy ( Jim Lee’s sales rep ). Nothing was guaranteed and ultimately approval for any drawing was done by Jim himself. I chose Namor the Submariner because ever since I laid eyes on Jim’s splash page from FF2 Volume 2 circa 1996 , I was in love. One of if not the best images ever made capturing Marvels first hero.Jim agreed to draw and it was arranged for Saturday but I wouldn’t receive the art until Sunday which required a choice to be made. Squash the commission altogether and give up a once in lifetime shot at Jim Lee original or make small sacrifice come back to Toronto for Sunday. My gut said come back so I did just that. Ironically I had made a 12” x 18” mini poster I blew up from that very comic to bring with me to Jim Lee signing on Saturday . I was over the moon happy knowing I could finally frame that iconic splash page but it gets better from there. A little acknowledgement from Jim for being a “ dedicated Namor fanatic “ drew laughs from both of us . Nothing could prepare me for what would come. I walked through artists alley mingling and stopped at Scott Williams booth . The very inker and owner of that famous splash page which he worked on so many years back. We talked for a good ten minutes about that piece and he stated that it was easily the best art of that era on FF run. It was superior to even the covers done at the time . He went as far to say it was one of Jim’s best pieces ever done . I totally agree. For a man known for his contribution on Xmen and Batman this obscure hero named Namor stood out amongst the pack. I’m already bias as you can tell because I love the piece. Scott was kind enough to sign my art print joining Lees signature and I was complete. I had cool pics and my poster was ready for the framers . Early Sunday morning approximately 1:30am I received a text from Albert Moy stating the art was done and the meeting was 9am in lobby of Royal York Hotel , Toronto Canada . I drove out . The meeting was quick and simple . I was handed a clear bag and inside was something that made my heart drop to my feet. He smiled and said “Jim doesn’t normally do this for 9 x 12” but this is special “. He shook my hand and walked away . It was a modern redo of that now famous splash page. It was the only commission done on Jim’s visit that weekend. You can’t compare old genius with new genius . It’s just simply genius. The evolution of an artist from 1996 to 2019. One of the greatest of all time . I’m eternally grateful to Jim Lee and Albert Moy for making this Namor fans dream come true’ https://www.cbr.com/jim-lee-recreates-heroes-reborn-namor-submariner-fantastic-four-image/amp/ Social/Sharing |

Wow! Sincere congrats, Miles! What a crazy story (in a great way!) - thanks for sharing. So cool that Lee went above and beyond to do this homage to one of his best images. Really can’t get any better for a Namor fan!

Huge congrats, its definetly one of the best splashes Jim has done in his illustrious career. To redo the image in his own style is amazing. The experience makes it even better, congratulations!!
