DescriptionHere's a good tale.Scott Williams and my friend, Irving did a deal for a Adam Hughes WW cover back in 2002. As part of the deal, Irving and I would get first shot at the new Batman series that Scott and Jim were working on. Right before Batman 608 was released, Scott offered me/Irving this cover for $6500. Short story is that Irving and I passed on it. We loved the cover but we couldn't justify the price. To put the $6500 in perspective, Albert Moy had an X-Men 11 cover for around that same price on his website. So in my mind, I couldn't rationalize paying $6500 for new art, when I could use that to buy the more "vintage" X-Men cover. Needless to say, that decision was a huge mistake. Not only b/c this cover is such a great, representative cover of the whole Hush series, but I never got a chance to buy another cover, splash, etc over the next few years. The one collector who outbid everyone over the next few years was Bill Woo. Fortunately for me, Bill is a friend and finally decided to let this go. It took only about 15 years but Bill was kind enough to let me pay for my mistake. Lol Thank you again Bill!!!! Social/Sharing |

Congratulations! I've always been fond of this cover; it might well be the best cover from the whole Hush series. Thanks for sharing (and the backstory)!

This one is taken over the top by the contrast of pencils and inks... I wonder if that was per Jim's instructions, or a decision by Scott? Either way I love it, and makes this the most memorable of the run to me. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!

I like how Jim and Scott not only managed to split the cover right and left via the characters, but also up and down stylistically. Cheers!

I will always prefer X-Men over anything he drew for emotional reasons but this is probably his best cover on Hush.

Great pick up! I came across two of the hush covers during the time Jim and Scott were banging them. Like an idiot never pick them up and both covers were 10K Now I KICK myself for not doing it! Dealing with Bill is TUFF because the guy doesn't need the money and his collection is incredible! For him to let this go, definitely he had something better cooking somewhere else. Enjoy it!

stupendous. I bought a dps from Scott at about that time. Sold it a few years later. Big regret. Was incredible. Catwoman cartwheeling on a train. So spectacular.

Joe, this is a PERFECT cover. The art is gorgeous. The inking it top notch. And I 100% agree. During this moment in time, the duo of Lee/Williams was on fire like nothing we've seen before or since. Pure artistic magic. Huge congrats.
