Description

This is Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern - beautifully rendered by the great Darryl Banks for the August 1999 issue of "JSA Secret Files & Origins."

Alan Scott gets his power from a fragment of the Starheart - something the ancient Guardians of the Universe messed around with to contain magic before they came up with power rings.

Alan Scott married Alyx Florin, who was secretly Rose Canton (Rose/Thorn). Their honeymoon led to two children, Obsidian and Jade.

In 1995, DC tried to “rebrand” Alan Scott as “Sentinel.” Then, in 2020, DC retconned Alan Scott into being gay.

Irrespective of one's position on diversity, retconning is lazy.

The Sears Tower is still the Sears Tower.

Alan Scott is still THE Golden Age Green Lantern.

I liked these Secret Files books that served as Who's Who and also an excuse for pin up art!  Even though they were pretty much a cash grab like swimsuit issues earlier in the decade, there are some random gems from star creators.

this must feel right at home next to your gem mint copy of All-American 16 !!??

Wait did you just say something about gay sentinels? Marvel has lost their fucking minds. Shit.

But the Marvel Sentinels were gay from the beginning, like Northstar.

That's fine. Marvel knows how to do it.

It's the retconning that is rookie pandering.

Great Green Lantern pinup. Large, dynamic figure with great cityscspe background.  What the hell was the point ofgiving him a new name, anyway? He had existed for approximately 55 years by 1995. He wasn't a popular character of great interest at DC. So someone, in their immense wisdom, thought "Hey, I know why nobody has cared for the Golden Age Green Lantern for decades. His name sucks! If we just change his name, his popularity will take off!"

As I understand it, there was a push to focus the "Green Lantern brand" around the Corps, and Alan Scott did not fit in.

These are fictional superheroes that fly around in tights and capes.
