DescriptionTHRILLED to finally get a page from Jim Starlin's Metamorphosis Odyssey/Dreadstar epic! This was the first non-superhero illustrated storyline that I became hooked on, starting way back in 1980 in Marvel's Epic Illustrated magazine. The story unfolds over centuries and is packed with religious and political undertones. The series was close to becoming a live-action television show in 2015, but unfortunately, a producer of the show passed away. The narratives of these stories are so rich . . . I can't imagine owning a page without lettering. I don’t recall what Syzygy, Oedi, and Skeevo are discussing here, but the entire story, including the new graphic novels Jim has created in recent years, are ones I need to reread. This is page 8 from issue 5. Social/Sharing |

I will one day actually sit down and read through the omnibus edition of Dreadstar and I can better appreciate this page.

That's advanced artistry from Starlin and Milgrom hitting the 80s as hard as they did the 70's. I like the layouts take into account the word balloons and captions to stretch wider where needed and use them for some open panels to let the story and vibe breathe into a bigger space.

What is there to say? A solid Dreadstar page with most of the main characters!

Always thought Vanth was a bit of a drip so I don't miss him at all on this page. Loved Oedi and Syzygy as characters.

Great page, Tom! Very cool that Captain Marvel and Warlock stopped by to sign the treaty. By the way, I am pretty certain this page was inked by Starlin.

Hi Bob,
In the original draft of this post, I wrote that I thought it was inked by Starlin as well, but I thought that would come off as a little pretentious. I am going to ask him either at Heroes or Baltimore. Thanks!
