DescriptionIssue #8 / Page 5 / 1983For years, I held out for a Terry Austin–inked page from Brian Bolland's Camelot 3000. However, with prices only going up, I eventually made the difficult decision to trade a page of OA from my first comic to get this. As a teen, I held Camelot 3000 in the same regard as Watchmen, so owning an OA page inked by Austin is a thrill. Guinevere dropping her robe for Lancelot, Arthur walking in... Tristan and Isolde's sort-of lesbian kiss... Gwen's mysterious pregnancy—this was edgy stuff back then. Bolland was famously uneasy with others inking his work. But when Austin took over from Bruce Patterson for the final six of the 12-issue series, Bolland approved, referring to the legendary inker's work as "bloody marvelous" in a note to editorial at the bottom of the page (see accompanying image). As this page is from issue #8, I assume the referenced photocopies were from issue #7, Austin's first. Having held out for an Austin-inked page, the note from Bolland made this page extra special. The only downside of being a fan of this series was the wait. I was 15 when issue #1 hit in the Fall of 1982 and 18 when the finale landed in the Spring of 1985. It dragged—not quite as bad as the nine-year gap between Ms. Mystic #2 and #3, but still. I remember going to Joe Sarno's Comic Kingdom in Chicago and asking him if the new issue was in. Sometimes friendly, sometimes grumpy—once he saw me walk in and cut me off with a curt, "No!" Sadly, writer Mike Barr has had some recent health setbacks. Always wanted to meet him to talk about this series. Hopefully, I still one day will: Rally for Mike W. Sometimes, you have to give up something good to get something good. And this is GREAT!

Austin always does a bloody marvelous inking job! If Bolland wrote this before Austin got to ink it, he knew it would be motivation for Austin to make this particular page even more special.

Really nice page. Austin over Bolland is something special. Giving up something significant is a necessity sometimes to get something else you're after, as long as your happy seems like a good deal/trade. Congrats!

A stunner. Not many can inkers an do justice to Bolland, but Austin nailed it. Well done getting this!

Bolland/Austin is a powerhouse duo, and as much as it stings to sell a page from your first comic, I think it was worth it for this page. Congrats!
