DescriptionThis is one of my grail pieces. For years, I have really wanted an 11 x 17 Alan Davis piece. In 2018, Alan made a rare appearance at Terrificon. Alan only does headshots at conventions, but he brings a portfolio of tightly penciled pieces with him to every convention he visits. Looking through his portfolio, this Black Bolt and Medusa piece caught my eye. I love the Inhumans but I do not have any commissions featuring them. This was a way to fill my collection in more ways than one.Sitting next to Alan Davis at Terrificon was Mark Farmer, his preferred inker. Although I usually never get my penciled pieces inked, having Farmer there was too much of a temptation to be resisted, so I gave him the pencils to ink (to be sure, almost everyone at the convention who got a penciled piece from Alan walked their pieces over to Mark to get them inked). Davis and Farmer go together like peanut butter and jelly. Mark took the piece and said he would not be inking something of this size and complexity on site. He would take it home to the United Kingdom to ink and then he would send it to his friend, Larry Tun, in the U.S. who would get it to me. It took a few months, but I finally received the commission in November 2018. To say I am pleased would be an understatement. Mark embellished Alan's pencils so beautifully. No wonder Alan only wants Mark to ink his work. This is now one of the crown jewels of my collection! Social/Sharing |

This is wonderful. Great story - I'm still on the hunt for an Alan Davis piece too.

It really did come out great! You never mistake Alan’s work for anyone but his and Farmer’s inks really flesh the image out. Love the poses and expressions on both characters. Your excitement is clear in your description - congrats!

Jeremy -- Thanks for the kind words. Your gallery of covers is amazing, especially the Machine Man cover by Barry Windsor-Smith! And I agree with you, we need an Alan Davis and Mark Farmer Inhumans series!

Thanks for the tip about the "to be finished " pile. I got a Night crawler head piece but if he comes back through, I know what to look for
