Description

I was thrilled to pickup this page from Dave Cockrum's first Legion story in 2020. I believe it was being sold by Murphy Anderson's estate via Heritage Auctions, so this had never been on the market before. While the editor put Murphy's name first in the credits, it was confirmed by Dave in the intro to the Legion Archives vol. 10 that Dave was the penciler and Murphy was the inker.

While I first became a Cockrum fan via the X-Men, his work on the Legion was phenomenal and got better every issue. Elements of his costume re-designs are still being used today.

It looks like Saturn Girl was drawn with her original costume and then corrected over white-out. It turns out that this is actually the second appearance of her bikini costume after Action Comics #392, 2 years earlier, apart from a panel in the "Fashions from Fans" feature in Adventure Comics #403. I guess Dave liked this version as he kept it while re-designing a lot of the other costumes.

Aww thanks. I'm not sure who picked up the splash, but hopefully the rest of the story will turn up.
