I'm a huge metal head and when the Dark Knights: Death Metal series was announced I was bummed that they didn't have any variant covers by actual death metal artists so when I saw the blank sketch cover variants on the shelf at my local comic store I knew I had to do something about it, at least for my personal collection. I contacted Vince Locke, who is a comic artist but is also known for doing the (often controversial) album cover art for the infamous death metal band Cannibal Corpse. I hired him for a blank cover commission in homage to one of his most infamous Cannibal Corpse album covers, Tomb of the Mutilated, but with the flagship DC characters Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. It's taken a bit over a year but I now have it in hand and I couldn't be more blown away by the job he did. It's probably the most disturbing art I've ever seen on a comic book sketch cover and that's what a death metal cover should be. I love it when the worlds of heavy metal and comic books crossover.
