Description

I've admired Bruce's art for years but have never seen one "in the flesh" until now. Although I do not have many macabre pieces (my main focus is SF), this one is just so ALIEN and OTHER. I love the juxtaposition of the alien surreal landscape against the beastie.

This is the cover piece for Genius Loci by Clark Ashton Smith (Panther Books, 1974).

Note: The book cover was heavily tinted RED, I'm guessing to try to make the image feel more "evil" or demonic, but it REALLY hurts the beauty of the piece IMO (see the book cover image).

Thanks, Glynn! Yeah, I'd love to find one of his flying saucer pieces but I never see them pop up anywhere.

Oh! I nearly went for this one...can't decide who got the better piece! So different from the published cover.

They are both nice pieces and do share similar traits -- surreal landscape, similar composition and palette, horror elements, etc. I really enjoy his work!
