From the client Michael Rankins' "Common Elements" gallery description:

"Yes, I know. Silver Surfer and Black Racer appeared together in that Darkseid vs. Galactus crossover back in the '90s, and the whole idea of Common Elements is bringing together characters who, generally speaking, don't appear together.

Let this be a lesson to you, young padawan: Never let inconvenient facts get in the way of a great Common Elements concept.

Penciler Keith Pollard drew a super-stunning scenario to begin this commission's life. Inker Bob Almond finished the work in style, providing a gorgeous starfield background over a blueline of Keith's pencils.

This is Common Elements #136. The original pencil art was commissioned and completed at San Francisco Comic Con 2016."

This is my 63rd commission from Michael. It's my 2nd time over Keith Pollard. It's my 2nd Black Racer (first was by Jim Starlin!) not counting any Brotherhood jobs) and my 6th Silver Surfer. It was inked printed up as a blueline on 11"x17" Kubert Art 2-ply Strathmore board with Kuretake and micron markers, a Copic wide marker, white paint spatter, black ink finger smudges, China marker/crayon, some dot zip and X-acto blade scraping. I completed it on May 17, 2018.

Kirby would be proud to see this. I think it was a great idea to pair these characters. Keith is excellent.

I am truly grateful to be a part of this x-company tribute to The King. Saying he "would be proud to see this" warms my heart to no end. It was fun and I'm proud of the collaborative results. Thanks!
