DescriptionHere's another opportunity I was given to display that I can do better on an old piece of art. Apparently, when Angel Medina, my first pencil partner on Warlock & the Infinity Watch, drew the splash of Thanos standing over Gamora as a child for issue #9 he felt something about it was wrong, maybe the placement or the angle, and redid it and finished the page on another board which was the one I received and inked in 1992. Angel had the original, incomplete 11X17 OA page on Marvel board all those years (it's not a "prelim" since he rendered Thanos with full Medina detail) until Drew Cheskin bought it from him and commissioned me to ink it, perhaps because he loved the last Thanos I did over Angel's pencils. Drew wanted a simple background added and I came up with the idea of a doorway that the Titan was using for transportation with a whole lot of Kirby dots/krackle added for displaying powerful energy being involved. I wanted to see this colored so I commissioned my pal Tom Chu to work his magic and I described the idea of his shadow being made up of stars, much like how Eternity encompasses the universe, to add yet more aspects of power that this Thanos may possess. And Tom nailed it with two versions in white and gray. I completed the redemption inks on July 27, 2019.Social/Sharing |

What a great story! You and Angel are my favorite art team on Warlock and the Infinity Watch. Thanks for providing information about your process as well as all the pics. The end result is magnificent!!!

Thank you both! My first pro work was a fanboy dream and the enthusiasm has never faded. I've had a few fine folks, including a marvel editor at the time, tell me that was among the best work they'd seen of Angel's pencils inked...which to me is odd since it was my first work and I had little to no training with inking, having not assisted any vet inkers like many did. But thankfully my current redemption inks make a huge difference. So mych work but even more fun!!!
