Description14.5 x 202024 marks the 70th anniversary of the release of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. One of the greatest and most influential films of all time, Janus Films will be showing a remastered 4k version of the film in theatres around the world beginning this July. The use of multiple cameras to create the best possible action shots, themes of sacrifice and bands uniting to fight a common evil enemy have been influential throughout movies since its release. Sean Phillips has done numerous covers for Criterion Collection media and was tapped to create the official film poster for the 70th Anniversary re-release of the movie. Perfect choice as he is masterful in composition and technique when he goes all out like this. So thrilled to have this wonderful piece and hope to pick up a movie poster whenever it's available. Obviously cannot wait to see the remastered version of the movie in theatres. Check out when it's playing in your area here (might be as soon as next week!) along with an extra image of the Film poster: https://sevensamurai.film/buy-tickets Social/Sharing |

Looks like the art also took inspiration from the western genre to draw these images. I like the long sword forming the other side of the hat brim.

Outstanding work from Phillips! He's so underappreciated by the OA community, despite all the plaudits and awards from readers and critics. The faces and poses in this are right on. Love the lighting and mood. So much gravitas in the expressions

Whenever I've brought up my love of more realistic comic book art on my YouTube channel, I always bring up Phillips' name. He's fantastic with pen and ink and I see now withthis piece that he is also an incredible painter. An absolutely beautiful piece. Good going, Jason!

Man, love all the inks against that dark grey background, then you got those pops of white. Great stuff worthy of an anniversary poster of the classic film! Congrats!

Seven Samuri is one of my favorite films ever. which may be why this poster for the 70th Anniversary re-release hits all the right buttons for me. I love Sean Phillips' work on this poster. From the large portrait of Toshiro Mifune at the top, to the stirring figures of all seven samurai at the bottom, Philliips chose just the right images to stir up all my fond memories of the film. IMHO, Sean Phillips' style is just perfect for movie work of this sort and I hope to see more of it in the future. Congrats on a fabulous pick-up!
