Description

BURNE HOGARTH - Tarzan #733 partial Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 3-25-45 (United Feature Syndicate, 1945).

Burne Hogarth was the perfect replacement for Hal Foster on this series. Hogarth's mastery of dynamic anatomy, and light and shade are almost unequalled in the comic and comic strip world. This episode, titled "The Pygmies", is from the year-long "Tarzan Against the Gorm-Bongara Monster" story arc (732 to 748), and features Tarzan trapped in a pit. Created in ink over graphite on sheet of Bristol board with a image area of 20" x 11". The piece is affixed to a larger Bristol board backing. The logo is a printed paste-up. Reprinted in Tarzan in Color vol.14 - 1996
__________________________________________________

Wow! What a great Tarzan strip! Burne Hogarth is an amazing artist and his Tarzan work is one of the most influential comic strips ever! I especially love the large left hand panel with Tarzan stepping into the ray of light. But every panel is a textbook in its study of human anatomy. Wonderful piece!
