DescriptionLarge (23cm x 48cm), stunning pen-and-ink prelim to the painting used at the climax of Neil Gaiman's 'A Short Film About John Bolton'.I'd visited John and his wife (the beautiful and effervescent Liliana) at their London home on a couple of occasions. Knowing what I do for a living (that being a Funeral Director), Liliana one day sent this to me out of the blue, thinking - quite rightly - that the graveyard-related subject might appeal to my macabre sensibilities. She also felt - again, initially, quite rightly - that as a purchase, it would very possibly be beyond my humble financial means. I think she perhaps sensed me wavering, as she later came back with the sweetener of saying that if I WERE to buy it, John would cheerfully add my name to the gravestone in the background. Which was a curious, but of course irresistible incentivizer! He elected not to put my 'Date of Death' on the headstone - felt it would be tempting fate..! John is of course a legendary artist; he's also one of the nicest fellows you could ever hope to meet; any time spent in his and Liliana's company is always, without fail, immensely enjoyable, educational and fascinating. Fantastic work. The only problem for you is that John suggests that you will die some time this century based on the partial date on the headstone.Apologies for that.

Hi, Peter.
Yeah, I did point this out to John; I think he felt he could take that chance...felt it was a pretty safe bet!
You have a superb collection (which I've just been perusing), by the way - some cracking 'Black Dragon' pages! Many congratulations on that..

Great piece by the British master, congrats!
Many thanks, Davide.
You have a quite staggering collection, I see (I was particularly taken with many of your 'Vampirella' collection); this must have taken you years to amass?!

I love John Bolton’s work, this is a new one to me, so thanks for posting. I also had the opportunity to visit John and Liliana’s house in the early nineties, as I had just bought a page from Army of Darkness. I no longer have the page but the memories are lovely. Congratulations on this prelim.
