Description

Excellent (predominantly I think biro) 9" x 13" prelim to the eleventh of the iconic run of 'AVP: Deadliest Of The Species' covers that John produced in the mid-nineties. Of them all, this image has always been a favourite of mine (the very notion of a smartly-dressed Shop Assistant facing off with the most ferocious aliens ever conceived always struck me as being a wonderful juxtaposition), so when this piece appeared, last year, on the 'Art For Sale' section of his website, I was immediately in touch with his charming and ever-helpful wife Liliana.

The penwork is incredibly tight on the face and hair for such a great exactness to capture this look that must have been important to get it to this finish in a prelim.

Given that this prelim is a bit smaller than the final.. it makes we want to know more about John's process in transfering the image over.. because clearly this is no rough sketch! Very nice!!

Thanks for your kind words, Duke...but, as I say, as much as I love this prelim (and was absolutely thrilled to get it), owning it is scant consolation now I realise that the finished cover art was actually still out there and available to buy!
I'm delighted, however, that it's now in your ever-impressive collection.
