DescriptionI first came across Kurt's work 6 or 7 years ago. I was blown away by his abilities and his fine rendering. I missed several pieces at auctions over the years and other pieces in other collectors galleries are not generally available. I recently acquired two quite nice, later pieces by him. Here is my favorite piece from attending the Lucca comic con. Kurt Caesar at his peak, 1938. See extra images for amazing panel details.(born Kurt Kaiser, German but lived in Italy from the early '30 to his death, in 1974).Published in "Il Vittorioso" since 1938. Social/Sharing |

Admittedly, I am unfamiliar with the artist and his work, but judging by the fabulous inks and stark realism on display here, I can see why you were attracted to his work.

Very nice page- congrats! I wrote a little about Caesar's career some years ago, in the CFA-APA. The most interesting part was that he was sincerely pro-fascist, and volunteered to be an interpreter and war artist for Field Marshal Erwin Rommel during the campaign in North Africa. Some of his best work was the sketches he drew from that period. They were later collected and published in 1998 by John LUcas, in his book 'Rommel's Year of Victory: The Wartime Illustrations of the Afrika Corps by Kurt Caesar.' Caesar was captured in 1943 and repatriated to Italy.

Incredibly impressive, Jeff. The panel composition of the page is tremendous and the last panel is just beautifully done. I imagine it is even more impressive in person.
