DescriptionBack in 2004 a Tribute Book was put together to help Dave Cockrum with his medical bills at the time. Many legendary artists answered the call to contribute pieces of Dave's creations to help with the cause. Among them was Dave's friend Neal Adams who contributed a few original pieces to the book. Years later, when I was working for Neal at Continuity Studios, I was surprised to see this original still in one of Neal's portfolios and I instantly fell in love with it. It has all the finished detail of one of Neal's classic covers! When Neal did his first and only appearance on one of the Comic Art Live sales shows with Bill Cox, this was one of the pieces made available that night. As fate would have it, a friend of mine won the piece. Years later I expressed to them how much I loved the piece and begged and pleaded until we were able to work out a deal we were both happy with! So, I've saved this piece to reveal on the final day of the year, to celebrate a great year of art collecting! Even though Neal is well known for drawing the Original X-Men, here is a Rare treat at seeing him drawing the New X-Men that Cockrum co-created! And possibly one of the only times he has drawn Thunderbird! Happy New Year Everyone!Social/Sharing |

A fantastic tribute from one legend to another. The New X-Men do owe a lot to Dave Cockrum and it was a very fitting that they should be there for him in his time of need.

Great score Rich. First time seeing the finished OA for me. The pencil prelim was printed in the 2007 Savage sketchbook. I think Neal drew Thunderbird in the backup in Giant Size X-men #3 (2005)
