Description

Here's a concept sketch featuring a Centaurette and Cupids from the "Pastoral Symphony" segment of Walt Disney's Fantasia. The "Pastoral Symphony" utilized delicate color styling to depict a mythical ancient Greek world of centaurs, families of pegasi, the gods of Mount Olympus, fauns, cupids, unicorns, and other legendary creatures and characters of classical mythology. This stunning concept piece is attributed to James Bodrero (1900-1980). Bodrero worked as a character designer on the "Pastoral Symphony" and "Dance of the Hours" segments and rendered this sketch in pen and ink with gouache on 8" x 6" paper. The artwork contains a "WDP" stamp which indicates that this piece was originally sold through the Courvoisier Galleries art program. This is beautifully framed to 17" x 15" with an aperture of 8" x 5.75". --- "The little cupids were helping to make the centaurettes pretty for the party.
The cupids combed their hair, braided and curled their tails. They brushed the centaurettes' coats and polished their hooves." - There were even powder puff cupids !
