DescriptionCover n°174 from "Segretissimo" by Mondadori. Cm. 41x29. Gouache.Carlo Jacono was born in Milan in 1929, March 17th.. He attends Art School and the Accademy of Belle Arti in Brera. Once he finishes his studies he’d like to devote himself to painting but falls for an advertising studio’s flatteries. So he starts creating graphics and illustrations for billboards and campaigns for the press. In 1950 Alberto Tedeschi entrusts him the realization of the covers of the weekly “Gialli” Mondadori until 1986 when he’ll have realized more than 3.000 titles. From 1960 to 1990 he realizes all the covers of the spy weekly “Segretissimo”, again on behalf of the Arnoldo Mondadori Editore. Jacono does illustrations for other regulars Mondadori, from “Classici del Giallo” to “Romanzi del Cerchiorosso” and to “Libri dell’Avventura”. In the 80’s he also collabs with “TV Sorrisi e Canzoni”, with “Domenica del Corriere” and “L’Europeo” and with the weekly “Sette” that can be buy along side with “Corriere della Sera”. Also, he collabs with “Grand Hotel” and “Confidenze”, does illustrations for tales, war covers, western, fantasy, more that 6.000 pieces. In 1970 he also pursue a thirty years painting career: he exposes personal exhibitions in Italy as well as abroad. In almost fifty years of career he works for all the most important Italian and western publishing houses, for Enghlish, Swedish, Novergian and American regulars. In Japan he does illustrations for a western book of tales but also for a Richard Wagner’s biography. In Italy, the many illustrations of his also appear in “Club Degli Editori” books, “Euroclub”, “Selezione del Reader’s Digest”, on “Grazia” and “Confidenze”. His work is featured in all the main reviews of detective novels, science fiction and comic, like the “Cattolica’ s Mystfest”, “Treviso Comics”, the Mostra internazionale del film di fantascienza di Roma. From 1970 he is free from business contracts and start painting for his own persona, his works follow the figurative romantic line. In 1974 he’s awarded with the first prize of Amici del Quadrato per la Pittura. He dies in Milan in 2000, June 7th. Social/Sharing |
