13" x 9" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Who's Who in the DC Universe #1 Page 9 BLACK MASK Pin-Up Original Art (DC Comics, 1992). Tom Mandrake and Klaus Janson. Black Mask title is an acetate overlay. See additional images without overlay and also published color version!

I just love this original version of Black Mask. Why does time just have to screw up all the original great art concepts? The current Black Mask is a joke. This one is so much darker, more evil and just downright sinister. The origin story is so dark and twisted - the evil that made Black Mask well...... fits the mask!

Tom Mandrake was the first artist to ever depict the Batman villain Black Mask, co-creating the character with writer Doug Moench for the story in Batman #386 (1985). This pin-up art from the Who's Who series features a full figure of Black Mask, book-ended by coffins bearing the costumes of Batman and Robin. Black Mask has long been one of the most popular villains introduced to the DC Universe in the Modern era.
