DescriptionThis page was the big reveal teased on the cover! This is where Peter Parker actually got his spiffy new black costume. But... it's a costume with a secret! Because it very soon turns out to be alive and have its own agenda. This is the origin of the character Venom! The costume first appeared months earlier when characters from this series returned to the Earth. But there was no explanation for Spidey's new duds. ...Until this page seven months later! This piece sold for a World Record price of $3,360,000 in our 2022 January Signature Auction. In case some of you don't know, this page just sold for a whopping $3,360,000.00. Let me repeat that: $3,360,000.00!! Not only is this the first piece of original comic art to reach such staggering heights, but also the first to break a million dollars. I'm guessing it's one of the high profile art dealers who scored this. Then again, it could be some rich tycoon, somewhere in Japan, buying this for his (*ULP*) kid. Either way, simply astonishing. "Wow"!

Since yesterday it started the new chapter of the comic art. I hope this doesn't mean that comic art will be even more unavailable than it is now.... (but probably it does..)

Back in the day I used to say that when Michael Jackson discovers original comic art, then it'll be the end of my original comic art collecting. Sadly, yesteday might have been that day.

Not bad for a page where Spider-Mans pose makes him look like hes about to take a dump or has seriously strained something. Shows you hes not so smart. If you had to stand like that when you put on new clothes you would bring them back to the chamnging rooms. On a serious note, time to get out of comic art collecting now that the really rich loonies have got into it. Christ, how many people could you feed and house with that sort of money? Its a pretty sick world out there.

Yes Lord Christ we bless you and I pray we never miss opportunities to help others. It's a fair point that maybe our priorities are askew when we see that kind of money go down on a piece of comic art. Well I don't want to be a hypocrite as I've certainly dreamt of buying things I like if money were no object. These type of pages used to sell for values in the hundreds of dollars. I don't recognize our "hobby" anymore Peter. These prices suggest it's investment- business now. I haven't placed a bid at HA in over a year --theres no chance of winning.
No I'm not telling others how to spend their money but yeah $3.36 M seems obscene almost.
Still congrats to the buyer if it makes him/her happy. I know the seller is. He turned down a cash offer of $250,000 for both Zeck Secret Wars pages sold in this auction. His patience paid off big time.

Ponder this one. How much did the actual artists get when they sold them originally? Surely someone with that much disposable income might think of throwing them a few dollars....or the seller.
