Description

Curt Swan is Superman, right up there with Shuster, Boring, Byrne and Frank as one the the greatest Superman artists of all time. He drew the character more than any other artist and defined him for almost four decades (1948-86). As many Superman pieces as I've acquired over the years Ive never found a nice, quintessential image for my collection. Ive always been a little jealous of Alex Johnson's pin up, so finding this for sale a couple weeks ago was huge. This has everything for me, a large finished image and patriotic theme. It's amazing that this was done just two years before he died. Bought this from Anthony Spencer, so I don't know the story if this was a personal commission or published somewhere. Also I've never been great at scanning pencil only pieces as the scanned image typically looks washed out, so I altered it to bring out some more of the details. I don't use this term much but this is a definite grail for me.
