Giant robots with swords = awesome.  How is this series?  I've heard about it but never actually saw it.

It's a fun series. I love the Dinoforce (they are pretty much the comic relief of the series though, so people's mileage may vary). Star Saber ("Autobot Supreme Commander") is in the mold of Gundam and Optimus Prime, and he has a Wild West and Samurai feel to him all at the same time. He's also literally a father-figure to Jan, the young boy he adopts after the Decepticons kill his parents.

I recently did a rewatch and did not regret it. (Though if you were to watch in order, it would go Headmasters, Masterforce and then Victory) As Star Saber's partner Victory Leo is the reincarnated form of Ginrai (from the previous series Masterforce).

There are some continuity snafus as Japan did not get Transformers the Movie until AFTER these series had finished. So they knew the big points, like Optimus Prime's death, but Wheeljack and Perceptor both are part of the 'science squad' in Victory, despite Wheeljack having died in the movie.

Deathsaurus ("Emperor of Destruction") and Leozack kind of emulate the Megatron/Starscream relationship and the internal squables of the Decepticons are always an entertaining watch as well.

However, when it comes to vintage Japanese Anime, "Beware the Beast (Clip Show), for the Clip Show (6 of them!!!) is the Devil's pawn."

I brush your inks and all at once the sparks go flying
Those Autobots that know so well the art of driving
And though I see the danger, still the great Star Saber
I know I must surrender to your Transformers

Just like a torch, Su sets the soul within me burning
I must Red Box, I rent this disc of no returning
And though it burns me, it's Victory from the ashes
My Deathsaurus without your Transformers

I can't resist Su, what good is there in trying
What good is there denying covers all that I desire
Since first I disc you my art was yours completely
If I must crave, then I must say I want to be
On DVD, old DVD

Now THIS is a gorgeous piece! I love pieces that are used for products such as DVD covers and record albums. The biggest surprise is that Su was able to adapt and put aside his usual scratchy finishing style and do this one entirely in a clean, animation style! Congrats, man, you've certainly hit a Transformers motherload this year!

This is such an epic DVD cover. I love the intense battle going on. Kind of reminds me of Vegas. It will make sense when I post more photos.

Clean line work!  I had a Star Saber toy but never watch the cartoon with him.  Love that intro!
