Description

"Across a Crowded Room..." is my single favorite Justice League story! It's also my single favorite Comic Book of 1988! It's the After-Party (or Cast Party) for the show that was Invasion and in some ways the casting session for Justice League Europe.

On the final end Splash, we see Oberon and Maxwell Lord have selected the members for the European branch of the Justice League! Captain Atom! Rocket Red! Power Girl! Flash! Animal Man! Elongated Man! Wonder Woman! Metamorpho! Coming Soon to a Newstand or Comic Shop near you: Justice League Europe!

In conclusion, Bwa-ha-Mutha-F@#$%in'-ha!

I remember this issue fondly as well. Not my favorite of 1988 but that's only because it marked the ending of an era when Maguire was phasing out of the art chores, to be replaced by Ty Templeton. That said, it was still prime JLI.

The close of the story opens up so many possiblities!  I'm sure it must have sparked the imagination for readers on where the JLE team would lead the audience.

Now this takes me back! Man, what a great way to tee up Justice League Europe. It's peak JLI-era magic. The perfect blend of humor, heart, and superheroics. Such a great scene here, with Max and Oberon calling the shots like they're conducting a DC superhero draft! This was the moment where the Justice League really felt like it was going global, expanding beyond the usual crew and giving us even more of that Giffen and DeMatteis brilliance.
