DescriptionA beloved Spinner Rack Comic! An Invasion Aftermath Extra Tie-In!Gangbuster smashes into the Lexcorp Tower to go after the big man in charge! 37 year-old spoilers, Gangbuster is Superman!!!! Pretty sure I picked this along with many other Invasion tie-ins off the Spinner Rack at Quick Stop. I know I was able to score 4 of the 6 issues of Byrne's Man of Steel off the Spinner Rack. After that, until I discovered comic specialty shops I only encountered 2 issues of the volume 2 Superman book from the Spinner Rack. This was the second v2 Spinner Rack book, right before I did discover Comic Specialty shops! I think after that, more back-issues and following the story between Adventures of Superman and Superman was way more consistent. But this was a jumping on point of sorts, picking up after the events I read in the main Invasion mini-series. This quickly led into Exile and an exciting time to be a Superman reader. So yeah, nothing is more of a Snapshot in time than Lex Luthor with his gloved mechanical hand, talking to military industrial types about the Alien weaponry recovered from the Invasion! (in Australia) and Superman busting heads as Gangbuster! Love the Gammill art and action, from the way Gangbuster smashes through the window and deflects the security guard's bullet, to the detailed backgrounds and Metropolis skyline! Social/Sharing |

See, THIS is why I so badly wish I had more time to read comics. I would love to be able to just go back to the Man of Steel mini-series, reread that, and then continue reading the entire Superman comics output up through the late 90's. I remember the visuals of this page, but the fact that it's Superman dressed as Gangbuster doesn't even ring a bell! Anyway, great Gammill pencils. Lovely storytelling and a great, clear action sequence!

Gammill (on Superman) is pure magic and that Gangbuster plot was fun.

I always remember this storyline because DC had an editorial page on the inside front cover of some comics at the time, and one of them spoiled the then-upcoming Gangbuster revelation and Superman's trip into space.
I really need to see if I still have an issue with that column, as it was the embodiment of how not to hype a story.

I can't believe you did that. I have a 38 year hold on my readings just to make sure the character develops and does not waste my time and you went ahead and spoiled it. Thanks Derrick, thanks a lot. What next are you tell me? Batman and Guy get in a fight?

What a GREAT Gangbuster entrance! I agree with Ruben - your posts are really putting me in the mood for an era re-read of Superman. Congrats!
