DescriptionI love Carlos' work and after getting a piece from him back in 2020, I reached out and we started talking artistic influences. As I had thought, he was a big fan of both Bernie Wrightson and Franklin Booth and we started spit-balling ideas. What started out as a single commission turned into two to cover both his artistic heroes. This piece is an homage to Franklin Booth (see additional image). Carlos being an X-Men fan too threw in all sorts of extra goodies to round out the Savage Land including Magneto, Zabu and the Blackbird. You can check out his Wrightson homage here: Hulk & Thunderbolt Ross Social/Sharing |

Stunning tribute to Franklin Booth by Dearmas while incorporating those Savage Land/X-Men elements to the illustration perfectly. Really something special by Carlos, congrats this is amazing!

Zabu clearly wants to chomp Magneto and I am here for it.

Wrightson's Frankenstein work was completely inspired by Booth's, so really, it all goes back to Booth being the primary inspiration, of which many other comic artists have also been inspired, such as Alfredo Alcala for a brief time on Savage Sword of Conan. But I like that Dearmas keeps his own style and only retains inspiration from the original source, as opposed to slavishly copying his exact technique. This is a beautiful piece!

While I obviously see both Booth and Wrightson in his style, this looks more comic booky to me so I'd say Broderick meets Alcala instead?

Holy dinosaur! This is insane! Carlos' style fully comes through but also reminds of Wrightson. Wow.
