DescriptionCAVE GIRLS OF THE LOST WORLD: PLANT MONSTER original comic artaka “The Woman Eater” by Richard Sala (creator of Peculia, Chuckling Whatsit, Mad Night, The Hidden, Bloody Cardinal) Watercolor art, measures about 11"x 14" Signed on the front and back Very good- condition (slight warping from watercolors). This piece was created for the Fantagraphics book "Cave Girls Of The Lost World" PUBLISHER’S NOTE ABOUT THE BOOK: No one takes the concept of “cave women and dinosaurs” seriously - and no one should. According to cartoonist Richard Sala, even the people who made movies that combined the two - and the audiences that watched those movies - realized it was a fantasy, requiring a bit more than the usual suspension of disbelief. Sala confesses that his new ebook Cave Girls of the Lost World is, in a way, an homage to this fantasy and to some of the earliest comics he made as a self-described “dopey kid.” “I wondered if I could take these adolescent reveries and actually make something out of them today, with all the years and everything that’s happened in between. Once I started it I figured I might as well see it through to the end. It was something to get out of my system I suppose, but also I hope I made something entertaining out of it.” The story is presented as illustrated text from a “found” weather-beaten journal - along with colorful full-page illustrations for each page and a comic strip framing device. In a plot that rivals any of the B-movies that inspired it, a group of young women, on their way to an exclusive college, are suddenly stranded on a strange plateau when their plane goes down. They soon realize they are cut off from civilization in a land forgotten by time and not on any map. Of course, it’s rough going at first - mostly because of the dinosaurs, carnivorous plants, apemen and other hideous and hungry monsters. But these are intelligent, brave and resourceful women and they learn to survive and make the best of things as they are forced to adapt to their new lives. Written with dry and quirky humor and filled with Sala’s colorful and unique watercolor art (which - WARNING - includes some nudity), Cave Girls of the Lost World is for the dopey kid in all of us.
