DescriptionA small story behind this painting... Having no luck getting in contact with Joe in 2019, I kinda wrote him off as my White Whale and basically began to live with the fact that I may potentially never own a commission from him.. Fast forward to the end of 2020 - I saw Joe active in a Marvel Masterpieces Collector's group and thought I'd give it another crack, so I messaged him again. This time, he responded minutes later! To my pleasure, he let me know he was available and would be able to start my piece after he made a dent in some Edgar Rice Burroughs covers he was working on. He'd contact me when he was ready to start. Initially, I asked for a full-figure painting of Spider-Man hanging upside down. Luckily he hadn't read that message yet, so when he contacted me in the beginning of March saying he was ready to go, he'd come already prepared with some sketches for me to choose from. I asked him to scratch the upside down pose and chose one of the prelims he sketched that day. I just really liked the thought of having a close-up torso shot of the web crawler and idk.. something about the pose just really resonated with me as a Spider-Man fan. A week later - around 10am, he sends me the final piece while I was working and it left me absolutely stunned. In the moment, I couldn't tell whether I was looking at my commission or some lost, unpublished Marvel Masterpieces card. I was astonished with the final result and recognized immediately that what Joe had painted for me, was in fact - a true Marvel Masterpiece. It goes without saying that this painting will be a part of my collection till the day I no longer walk this earth and just made me realize that everything has it's own time and place..Thanks again Joe. *UPDATE* 9/5/21 Turns out that I wasn't the only one who thought this was a masterpiece! The Comic Mint and UK-Based, "Sad Lemon Comics" decided to turn this into an officially licensed/published variant cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #73 (2021)!! I still can't believe it. This piece really does bring some deja vu... I didn't know if I was looking at a commission or a 90s Marvel Masterpieces promo. Great pick up! Definately a piece of the year candidate!

Chris, in case you are not aware, this piece was featured once in a comic art live update by Bill Cox. I can't remember which update it was in though. It would be close to when you posted it on CAF. Cheers.
