DescriptionAge of Reptiles is a longtime favourite and always has been since its beginning in 93 (see, it certainly wasn’t ALL that bad with only pouches, big phallic guns and semi-or fully-naked bad girls ^^). Mr Delgado is a maestro storyteller who tackled the most difficult exercise of all, producing a wordless high-quality book about animals.I got this piece in 2014 when Southern California's CAPS, the Comic Art Professional Society, launched an ongoing series of eBay auctions of original comic art. Its goal was to raise funds to cover the medical care for Sharon Sakai, the wife of respected cartoonist and longtime CAPS member Stan Sakai, creator of the samurai rabbit USAGI YOJIMBO. At that stage in my collecting career, I had NEVER seen an actual original piece of art from the series being offered for sale, so I was determined to get it and even went out of my usual comfort zone in order to acquire it. Now about the piece. Like all art by Mr Delgado, the piece is gigantic for one, which is welcomed given the intensity of the Darrow level of details he infused this cover with. The series is called the journey and the least that one could say is that this illustration is perfectly telling for the subject. You really get a sense of exodus from it with I don’t know how many (species of) dinosaurs. The sense of busy life radiating from it is amazing. You get outer- and interspecies conflict (the two brachiosaurus and the T-Rex vs the triceratops being the most obvious but there are many others if you care to look for it), some even get eaten. There are many subtle elements distilled all over like indications of the walking speed of the dinos, their medical conditions, etc…And yet despite those pockets of conflict, the herd is endlessly going on…Furthermore, the piece is so grounded that despite its busyness and the size of the piece, Delgado really makes you feel like this is just a tiny part of it. A true storyteller at work basically. And if that wasn’t enough to enjoy, there are some juicy bonuses for the original art collector, namely sketches in the margins such as a perspective grid and a Hulk bust, a Daredevil figure and profile and a Dr Octopus (gotta love how he drew his…tentacles). This is part 4 of my 2024 CAF birthday party. Social/Sharing |

Ah, I see that you didn't only acquire ONE piece from this book. Tons of dinosaurs, what's not to love?

If you search ever so closely you can see Georges St. Pierre hugging one of them.

Happy Birthday and congrats on this piece! I don't think I've ever seen Ricardo draw more dinos on one page.

WOW! Wowwowwow...! An absolutely breathtaking piece from a series that I still need to trap and consume (talk about 'the hunt', right?), but (like all things) it's The Journey that really counts, and you really don't need any proof other than this cover to set that in stone (or petrify) it. Great call on the Darrow-level of intensity and detail here, with a wonderful sense of life, movement, and storytelling (like something that Aragones might call forth). A jaw-dropping piece for a great cause; congrats on a rich reward after venturing outside your bidding comfort zone! And happy birthday!!
