Description

I commissioned Gary Martin to do a reinterpretation/mash-up of two fabulous Neal Adams covers. The basic image was to be the cover to Batman #227, but I never really thought that Neal paid much attention to the foreground image of the guy chasing the girl with the hounds. I suggested that Gary use the foreground girl from House of Secrets #88 instead, and eliminate all the clunky trade dress from the Batman cover, allowing the image to breathe on its own. Gary pulled all this together nicely. The commission took just over three months to complete from late June 2017 to early October 2017.

In the additional images you will find the printed versions of the two covers which were the basis for this commission, and Gary's initial pencil drawing of the cover sent prior to completion to make sure that I was pleased with the composition.

Great mashup idea. I also like how GM managed the grays on Batman and the woman. Do you know if the grays are an ink wash or Copics ??

Will - it looks like Copic markers to me.
