DescriptionI never thought that I would own a Kirby page, but I got lucky. I was not wise enough to seek one out during his lifetime when they were more affordable. Luckily the Kirby fans with the deep pockets seem to care only about the 1960s. So much of his '60s art is stolen property. Why risk being a party to a crime? He does not need Stan Lee's dialogue to "improve" his writing - that's just plain stupid. Plus he got progressively better after 1970. The 1980s work matters most to me because I was too young to be present for the 60s and 70s. So this Silver Star page found the right home. Plus it was inked by Mike Royer (who is tops). Naturally I got a silver frame for it.Social/Sharing |

'80s Kirby is pure, don't-give-AF, funky-as-I-wanna-be Kirby. Silver Star and Captain Victory blew so far past the comprehension of the average comic book fan that there is still to this day little awareness of how dense and creepy they are. That movement from three to four! So masterful!

In the Silver Star graphite edition it shows that all six of the panels were blocked in when Kirby drew it. It was Mike Royar's creative decision to erase the panel borders for the first and the third panels. When you have an inker like that who makes brilliant creative choices, it just magnifies the genius.

60s, 70s, 80s. DOES IT MATTER? NOT A JOT. His later pages are just as exciting as his earlier ones.
