DescriptionI decided to post this today, on the 20th anniversary of the passing of John Buscema. This iconic image features a grieving Quicksilver holding an injured Wanda in a dramatic and emotional pose that has been paid homage to in some of the most famous covers in comics history. This issue was the first Avengers issue that John had both penciled and inked, making it a true reflection of his gigantic talent.Social/Sharing |

Full metal biblical! Magneto looms over the scene in all his cruelty.

Beautifully framed with symmetry to bring our focus tighter in the Pieta pose. This emotionally moving posing of anatomy and scene building is how Buscema gets associated with being the Michaelangelo of comics.

In this story, Magneto's role was rather insidious. In order to turn Quicksilver against humanity Magneto caused a bullet fired by a UN guard to strike Wanda.

Incredible museum-worthy piece, and definitely one of the best things to post to CAF in this new year. No one outdoes Big John when it comes to drama and pathos--the emotions of the characters leap off the cover. Awesome!
