DescriptionThis was published as a full page illustration in the June 1906 issue of Everybody’s Magazine, for a story titled “The Outlaw” by Edward L. Sabin. For obvious reasons, Dan seems to have been the go-to choice of Everybody’s to illustrate stories involving horses. The original is 27” x 18”. The caption is “Down in a heap plunged horse and rider”, noted in pencil by the artist below the figures. This image also appears as the illustration for the Dan Smith entry in at least two editions of Walt Reed's "The Illustrator in America" as a example of Smith's mastery of Dry Brush. Social/Sharing |
