DescriptionSO happy to share with you this stunning J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man variant cover for 2014's Amazing Spider-Man #1.1. Major MAJOR wish list piece. It features Spider-Man of course (check!), as well as the beautifully "Campbell-ized" Gwen Stacy in the foreground, wearing her iconic headband and go-go boots (double check!). It doesn't end there. THREE of Spider-Man's earliest foes appear as well -- Doctor Octopus, Sandman and the Chameleon! Check, check and check! Also appearing on this cover is Clash, a brand new Spider-Man villain at the time who made his very first costumed appearance in this very issue! 1st appearance of a new Spidey villain?!? Ch-ch-ch-CHECK-A-ROOOO! Th-th-th-THANKS for looking!! :-) Social/Sharing |

The Sandman, Chameleon and Doc Ock all kick ass! "Clash would be cooler if he was named Vertigo-Man withthat costume. But since I've never even heard of him, I guess I'll reserve judgment until I see him appear again. Kudos!

Love those tentacles from Doc. I wonder how he speckled Sandman. Lots of great detail in this awesome piece. Congrats, Paul!

It's quite mystifying that Campbell still hasn't learned to draw a straight line. Thank goodness.

Wow Paul, this is just amazing Campbell goodness everywhere you look! It's not enough that Spider-Man is front and center, but then the additional cast of characters that are not second hand thoughts, but build the whole background. Congrats on this, this is an amazing cover.

Such a cool cover ! J. Scott Campbell channeling Ditko in his depiction of Spidey's costume and villains portrayal, while also keeping his own recognizable and beloved style ! A true gem of a piece !

Campbell clearly knows who to put in the foreground and who to show from the side. Works for me :-).

Smiles in the foreground and background, but all business in the middle. Doc Ock is more of a fierce Battle Smile, though. I really dig that ink spatter to make Sandman gritty. What a great technique! And that Gwen Stacy J Scott Campbell good girl art is fantastic. Awesome cover, Paul. Congrats!

As you note, bud, LOTS to like about this one! The Ditkoesque Spidey is awesome, and rarer to see in a JSC Spidey piece. Gwen is of course outstanding, but I also really love that Ock in the background. And the spatter effect on Sandman. And the circles emanating out from Clash all the way to the edges of the board. Yeah...like I said...LOTS to like about this one :) Congrats, Paul!
