Description

I might not have read a lot of Judge Dredd (yet), but I love the character. The magnificent movie by Alex Garland jumpstarted the interest, while Carlos Ezquerra turned it into more. In April 2018, Carlos and his wife were guests at FACTS in Belgium.

My girlfriend & I were the first at his table, waiting for his wife and him to show up. They'd overslept a little. They apologized profuously for being a bit late, and then we got to talking. While Carlos' English accent wasn't the easiest to understand, we made it work & talked for easily half an hour. We took a picture together. And his wife asked to take a picture of both her and Carlos, and some tech advice, too.

When he died only six months later, my girlfriend and I were both very touched. It still is emotional now, looking at this sketch.

The sketch itself of course shows his co-creation Judge Dredd. Behind Dredd, you can spot some quick outlines of Mega City One. Size is 9x12.

Carlos was a marvellous man, and a great artist. He is much missed.

Absolutely. It's weird how a one hour meeting can have such an impact on how you feel about someone, too.
