As a child of the 80's & 90's, I grew up with a love of comic books and super heros. I started my collection with a few random DC books: 1986 Batman 401 magpie story, 408-410 Jason Todd as the new Robin, Superman 19 in 1988 and Adventures of Sups 448. One day my mom brought home two banana boxes full of silver and Bronze age DC and Marvel comics from an antique store which included Giant Size X-Men #1. My comic collection boomed from there. I remember buying Erik Larsen's 2 part Amazing Spiderman 332 & 333 "Venom's Back" story from the supermarket in May/June of 1990 like it was yesterday. The excitement of getting ahold of the conclusion and reading it in the store while waiting in line. As I got older, I moved away from the infallible DC characters and Marvel's let's make the covers shinny when I discovered Valiant & Image comics in the mid 90's. Image had the drawing talent, new familiar characters, and sex appeal but Valiant had the violence, writing skills, and the ability to resurrect, create, and combine long forgotten characters with new ones. I'm a sucker for original art from this time period. Knightfall, Reign of Supermen, and Unity are some of my favorite story-lines.
I purchased my first pieces of original art in the late 90's. Some Sean Chen X-O Manowar Acclaim pages, Ed Benes Gen 13 pages, and Scott Eaton Swamp Thing were some of the first pieces in my collection. I was new to ebay and mostly purchased art at conventions and toy shows. The market has definitely boomed in the past few years.
Currently I'm trying to focus my collection on historic pages and favorite characters. I usually stay in the early 80's to early 2000's but I have recently discovered some newly published work like Esad Ribic's Uncanny X-Force and Bill Reinhold's Earth-X that has something those 90's pages don't. I've also picked up on the new Valiant which is a great read month to month. I'm also looking to get some Spiderman daily newspaper strip art but I am being extremely selective about it. I see Alex Saviuk and Paul Ryans strip art all the time but nothing has spoken to me yet.
Please have a look at my collection and don't be afraid to email me about any page. I love to talk comic art. Thanks for looking.
